Please help me with this... "Display Driver ATIKMDAG has stopped responing and recovered.
I am not tech savy at all. When I am watching a vid. and go to full scereen, the screen goes black andI get the message Display Driver ATIKMDAG has stopped responding and has recovered. I have searched the web and and found many people who have replaced the driver but I have no clue how to do this. I also found an update from microsoft but when I try to install it, I get the message that the update does not apply to my system. (Vista Home Basic). Once aweek when Windows searches for solutions to problems and errors, the solution for the Display Driver problem is "Update to latest version of Vista). What I would rather do is revert back to XP which I never had a problem with. So, what I want is simple. I just want to use my computer to do all that it was meant to do. Can anyone help a simple guy who is better at working with steel than with computers?

This is an Exchange server forum, so we probably can't help you a whole lot. However,I did a bit of searching around and apparently this is a pretty common problem for Vista users. I did not have a whole lot of lucking finding you any step-by-step instructions on how to fix this. Fixing device drivers is a pretty difficult problem if you don't know a lot of the specifics about your computer. The first thing you need to find is the exact model of video card that you are using. That will be very helpful, because you then need to go to ATI's web site (http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html) and locate the latest Vista driver for your video card. If you are lucky, then all you should need to do is to download the driver, run the install program, and it will update your computer.
